Who Cares About Fred - SPL or SMART?

You may be wondering what Fred has to do with Stompernet’s program SMART and SPL, Social Power Linking.

Bear with me a moment because I want to tell you about Fred. (That’s not his real name, but I can’t give it, for obvious reasons.)

I don’t know Fred personally but he is a friend of a very dear friend of mine. Fred lives in London. He has worked as a carpenter all his life and was made redundant from his job. At first he was very positive and cheerful each day, hoping that this would be the day that he got that new job. But as time went on, he began to get depressed.

His wife decided to return to their homeland and take their youngest son with her. This left Fred to fend for himself. His only goal every day was to find that job so that he would send money back to his wife and even save up to go and see them again.

The one thing Fred had against him was his age. He was no longer a young man and had to compete with them to get a job. Eventually he tried to start up his own carpentry business but was unable to find customers as there were more carpentry businesses than customers in his location in London. So as you can imagine, he has fallen into a state of depression and desperation and all because he has not enough money to look after himself or his family.

My heart went out to Fred when I heard of his story over the weekend and I have promised myself that when I return to London next, I shall try and meet him because I know that Fred has some amazing ‘golden’ skills which could so easily be put into an internet business. He just needs to know that there are other opportunities out there for him.
